Messiah in the Feast of Tabernacles

Messiah in the Feast of Tabernacles

Tabernacles (Sukkot) recalls 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, living in tents (booths) and worshiping in a portable tabernacle. As the great harvest festival in ancient Israel (the original "Thanksgiving" feast), Sukkot reminds us of God's continual providence in our lives. It also points us to the immanent presence of the Lord Jesus, who "tabernacled" with us as a man some two thousand years ago, and who is coming again soon to establish his eternal Kingdom. It was on Sukkot that Jesus made several memorable statements, and we gain deeper insight into his person and work as we review each in their ancient Jewish context.

Optional: a church can construct an actual tabernacle (simple directions provided) that serves as a great object lesson and provides an added measure of authenticity to the event. A full worship service can be conducted around it, including Messianic music and liturgy. Sukkot works well as an outdoor event, venue and weather permitting.
