Messiah in the Passover

Messiah in the Passover

The Passover is an ancient festival that carries a powerful message for today. The first of seven "appointed times" given to ancient Israel, this holiday forms the primary background for understanding the events of the Upper Room, the symbolism of the Lord's table, and the meaning of Messiah's sacrificial death. Within the Passover we hear the story of the Exodus and learn how Israel's redemption from bondage in ancient Egypt is linked to the redemption we have in Jesus, "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."

The Messiah in the Passover may be presented in the following formats:

  1. Sermon: the Passover is presented in topical sermon format, emphasizing the origins of the Lord's Supper as a Passover Seder, and the themes of sanctification, deliverance, redemption, and acceptance that we have through the grace of our Lord Yeshua, the Lamb of God.

  2. Messiah in the Passover presentation: the teaching of the Passover is presented in the context of a Seder delivered in a demonstration format. Each of the elements of the Passover Seder plate are explained in their relation to God's plan of redemption, along with traditional and Messianic Passover music performed live.

  3. Passover Seder: The congregation is invited to participate in the Passover Seder ceremony, typically held in a fellowship or banquet hall. The elements of the Passover Seder plate are present at each table, and all may share in the experience as the significance of each element is explained, along with traditional and Messianic Passover music performed live.

  4. Passover Seder Banquet: the Passover Seder is celebrated as described above, accompanied by a full traditional holiday meal (provided and prepared by the host congregation).  Detailed instructions can be provided to offer an authentic and edifying experience for all.
